Visit to Briones and Vivanco museum

On June 29th, once the Conference is over, we propose a guided tour of the old village of Briones and the Vivanco Museum.

Briones, 35 km from Logroño, is one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. It was declared a historical-artistic complex due to its medieval urban fabric and its many buildings of interest.

The square is of great beauty and unique historical buildings appear on it. The medieval flavor can be seen in windows with pointed traces of Gothic memory, or in niches that keep the devotion of the neighbors. Most of the buildings, following the style of civil constructions of the Rioja Alta, have three floors in perfectly carved masonry.

Among its civil buildings we can highlight the Palace of the Marquis of San Nicolás, which is currently the town hall. It houses the ethnographic museum of the Haunted House, the Palace of the Gadeas, the Palace of the Quincoces, and the Rabal Apothecary, which dates back to the end of the 19th century.

Once the visit to Briones is over, we will go to the Vivanco Museum of Wine Culture. Located in a unique landscape and historical setting in the heart of the vineyards and the Vivanco family winery, it offers the possibility of discovering the exciting world of the origin and production of wine, together with its religious, cultural, and artistic symbolism.

Considered one of the best of its kind in the entire world, the museum occupies an area of 4000 square meters. It includes 5 permanent exhibition halls and a temporary exhibition hall. Outside, it features the Garden of Bacchus, and a collection of vines that has more than 220 varieties from all over the world.

The museum shows the cultivation of the vine, the harvest, the winemaking techniques, the work in the cellar through an important set of ethnographic objects. A valuable archaeological and artistic collection evokes the role of wine in the religious rites of different cultures and the inspiration that artists have found in this drink throughout history.

Later, we will visit the Vivanco Winery and we will be able to enjoy the tasting of three wines.
